Keeping children safe is hard enough...

Keeping children safe is hard enough... that job is made much harder when Halloween rolls around because of the added contradictions and challenges. From day one we teach our children to stay away from strangers, not to go into your neighbors home, and to keep away from unknown vehicles. Well, that is until Halloween rolls around. It’s custom for us to walk up to stranger’s doors and ask for treats with the ‘threat’ of a trick otherwise! Hmm... After this, we let them eat whatever they’re offered without a thought... for the most part. Thinking about this now (I can’t believe I didn’t realize all of this 30 years ago!) I see the wisdom in attending my local downtown festivities or checking out the nearest pumpkin patch. However, if you take the necessary precautions (such as going trick or treating with your child and checking candy before consumption) trick or treating can be a wonderful and memorable experience for everyone! The Denver Zoo has a celebration with giant pumpkins to boot. If your kids are old enough, a haunted house can also be a great way to fill up an autumn night! No matter what you decide to do this Halloween season, I hope your days are filled with family fun and warmth. #DenverZoo #Halloween2018 #PumpkinPatch
